an angel and a saint
sit across from me on the train,
cleanly dressed,
clearly in love,
yoked,
with an unmistakable hard-crack
around the edges
that speaks phantoms of despair
and rough street,
the scritching of glass
from clandestine wine,
slowly and carefully
uncorked
against the sway,
slowly and carefully
filling the canteen,
against the long haul
of the day
ahead,
the promise and sadness
all mixed up
together
in their kiss.

dreams
dreams of corded fires, flying & the secret trump of teleportation, alighting the perfect perch under the eaves and tree branches, then waking to sunshine in the pre-dawn darkness, rising into the “plans” all quietly stolen away around the corners turning, dear and too short heart to hearts, circles oscillating slowly, watch the patterns eddy, see the lines curve away and in, wrapped all around in liquid music, sleep, sigh, relax now, sleep, perchance to dream again of how

Muscles still tight
from the deep
instinctive
push back,
inwardly groaning,
like lengths of trees in the sun
as they stretch toward
the meeting place.
The heat will lead you in,
a trickle,
flowing like water,
quivering,
then rushing,
melting into
the vast teeming ocean.
20 miles
condensed into color,
hanging above your head,
not to weigh you down,
but to make you look
higher.
Prayers woven into the
air currents
shimmering,
turning,
brought levity through
the free and pure joy
gifted us by the young,
rippling,
unadulterated,
out to the wider world
where hidden elephants sing
us flying through the air,
Asian grandmother
dancing alongside
as lightly as
a spring blossom
on the wind.
