Over distances

Onward,
ever onward
we race
over the vast illuminated distances
of Heavens on earth,
echoing across boundaries of time
and past lives lived now,
a coming that
mirrors the passage
of Brilliance overhead,
traveling the slow outward curvature
to reunite on new topographies,
bounded only
by the colors
that spell love.

The Dance

A silent game
played out with the words
of action and movement,
occasionally,
the asking,
or the courtesy of names.

Quieting the mind
enough to hear with the skin.
Can I interpret movement
through only the barest touch
of hand and arm?

or to lean
cheek to cheek,
and hip to hip,
eyes closed,
swallowed up in the
sway of rhythm
between us.

to give up autonomy,
to the trust of
connection
and follow
the translation of music
as your body
tells it
to mine.

Way of the Sacred Feminine (2012)

A young buck walked past me,
so close that I could see
the movement of his fur
was the rippling
of many points of light
on a deep velvet sea.
The bee biting my palm,
a gentle nipping call
to shared experience,
and I felt
how a spider’s walk
is lighter than even
the weight of the merest whisper.

Did you ever stop
to consider
that fog
is time
coalescing
into visibility?
How it hangs
immensely weighted
and yet is also
ineffably ungraspable?

I discovered that
deep inside of my body
I carry the gateway to a universe.
(I was there yesterday,
for a moment.)
The way to enter it
is not through knowing,
but being.

So much thinking in the way of all of this!

I get so caught up in Story
because it comes in pictures,
an endless movie-reel of drama in my mind.
The key to Connectedness as a Thing
is that I have to stop looking for it like that,
and merely allow myself
to be quiet enough
to sense,
deep in my body,
even beyond my body,
the vast spaciousness
of what is always there
simply
being.

from the heart (2006)

so many thoughts
so many feelings
right now
everything’s hanging on an edge
beyond reach or control
I can’t command another’s heart
but would I even if I could>?>
I can only do what I am doing
and be who I am
how can that ever be enough?!?
and yet how could it not?
(I miss you!)
somewhere in between the flair of the wrist
the connect between foot and ground
the spin
hearts beating
joy comes unbidden
flowing
out and down
and around
song through movement
liquid on the air
(how can you not dance when its just so. much. FUN!!!)
and so easy
so much easier than you think
deeper
with a deepness that defies touch
to open
from the heart

sea of stars (2006)

lost,
in a sea of stars,
we give direction
to each other.

walk the waves,
through
and over
and in,
resurfacing,
with crystal-tipped
vision,
from the quiet deep,
to sing the song
reverberating
in the depths
of your soul.
sometimes
singly,
with the pureness
of being,
sometimes
meeting
and parting
with others,
each melody
weaving together,
along paths
similar
and divergent,
to create
this exquisite
rhythm.

lost (2006)

lost in the room of myself,
I find myself.

suddenly,
things become
clear,
and I realize
how very simple
it all is.

this joy never stops.
it is always here,
in all things,
just waiting for you
to accept it.

A beginning

“I believe in all that has never yet been spoken.
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for

may for once spring clear
without my contriving.

May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children.

Then in these swelling and ebbing currents,
these deepening tides moving out, returning,
I will sing you as no one ever has,

streaming through widening channels
into the open sea.”

–Rainier Maria Rilke

After years of stumbling over Rilke quotes, but never finding a book of his poetry that called to me to sit down and devour it, I came across a translation of his Book of Hours done by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy on Monday.

I read through half of it in the first sitting.

This blog will be for my own poetry and spiritual writing, and pieces of other inspiration as they find me, but I felt it appropriate to start with Rilke’s beautiful prayer because it speaks directly to what I hope to accomplish with writing here.

May the words of love and praise flow through the lens of me and the singing of my heart inspire you to sing also.
