A beginning

“I believe in all that has never yet been spoken.
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for

may for once spring clear
without my contriving.

May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children.

Then in these swelling and ebbing currents,
these deepening tides moving out, returning,
I will sing you as no one ever has,

streaming through widening channels
into the open sea.”

–Rainier Maria Rilke

After years of stumbling over Rilke quotes, but never finding a book of his poetry that called to me to sit down and devour it, I came across a translation of his Book of Hours done by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy on Monday.

I read through half of it in the first sitting.

This blog will be for my own poetry and spiritual writing, and pieces of other inspiration as they find me, but I felt it appropriate to start with Rilke’s beautiful prayer because it speaks directly to what I hope to accomplish with writing here.

May the words of love and praise flow through the lens of me and the singing of my heart inspire you to sing also.
